In the world of video games, there’s the ultra-realistic “Madden” style games, and then there’s the unrealistic and arcade “NFL Blitz” style games. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater has always tended to be the less realistic type of game and more of the “hit X and jump 50 feet in the air” type game. It looks like that will stay the same, but the way you actually play the game is in for a big change.
When EA released their skateboarding game called “skate” they blew away the Tony Hawk series with their innovative use of joystick-based controls. Even though they’ve needed a refresher for the Tony Hawk series, I think they’ve really decided to fire back with their new game “Tony Hawk: Ride.” Instead of using a controller, you actually use a board that senses your body’s movement. Any step away from their old style of button combos is a good step, but I’m a little skeptical… I definitely want to try it out though. I’m sure it will be fun and a closer experience to actually skating, but it will be hard not to want to pop or actually flick the board for tricks.
For more info, check out this video, it’s due out this year.
What do you guys think, are you gonna stick to EA Skate or give this a shot?
