I have to admit that I didn’t get into this video the first couple of times I watched it. It came out on DVD around the time Mindfield was released. Needless to say, my focus was in a different direction. I recently sat down and watched the rest of it, and it turned out to be a pleasant experience.
I’m big fan of all the Cliche videos. It seems as though each one is a different form of artistic expression, and this video is no different. As usual, this video contains full video parts, a team montage, an international montage, and a tour footage. A few of the parts are edited to actual live performances which is pretty interesting. The video contains full parts from J.B. Gillet, Lucas Puig, Flo Mirtain, Javier Mendizabal, Joey Brezinski, Charles Collet, and Andrew Brophy.
There are a few features that I want to highlight in this video. Lucas Puig and J.B. Gillet actually split a part, but it seems as though both have enough footage for it to be considered two separate parts. Flo Mirtain is amazing – I don’t know why but his kickflip back feeble on a ledge stands out to me. Javier is so underated. Joey Brezinski is still throwing out tricks that I can’t even begin to understand. Charles Collet’s part is vastly different from his past footage; his skating has become way more diverse – he still pulls out gnarly tricks, but you can tell he has grown up. Rightfully so, they just turned him pro. The honors of last part go to Andrew Brophy. There’s a lot of hype around him, but he really didn’t deliver the part I was expecting. I liked his part, but it didn’t hold up as a good closer. The main problem that stands out is that fact that it’s so short. Also, why are his last three tricks ollies? Is that really necessary? I realized after the massive triple set that he has some beastly pop. I really do like his skating, and I think he’s going to have an awesome pro career; I just wish he would have pulled together some more footage for his part.
I’m glad I gave this video another chance. I recommend this video to anyone who has been a fan of the past Cliche videos, and to anyone interested in international skating. Cliche was the company that shifted my focus on skateboarding from not only the U.S., but also to Europe.
I give this video an 8 out of 10.
